JOHN CORABI Says He May Perform MÖTLEY CRÜE's Entire 1994 Album On 20th-Anniversary Tour
June 15, 2014John Corabi, former lead singer of MÖTLEY CRÜE, THE SCREAM and UNION, has revealed that he may embark on a tour this summer during which he will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the MÖTLEY CRÜE album that he appeared on by performing the LP in its entirety.
Corabi originally joined CRÜE in 1992 as the replacement for the group's original singer, Vince Neil, who was fired due to personal differences. With Corabi on vocals, MÖTLEY CRÜE released one critically acclaimed full-length CD, which ended up being a commercial failure in the wake of grunge despite a Top-Ten placing on the album chart. When Neil returned to the fold in 1997, Corabi was left on his own and formed the band UNION with ex-KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick.
Speaking to Jacky Bam Bam of Philadelphia's 93.3 WMMR radio station, Corabi stated about his plans for the immediate future (hear audio below): "I've got a bunch of material for an electric record. But before I do the electric record, my manager was talking to me and he wants me to go out… I didn't even realize it — I'm kind of clueless — but my manager was, like, 'It's the 20th anniversary of the MÖTLEY record. I think you should go out and do the MÖTLEY record, as much of the material from the MÖTLEY record as you can. You know, just kind of go out and do a 20th-anniversary 'John Corabi performing the MÖTLEY record, 'MC 94', from top to bottom, and just go out and do your thing.' So I may go do that this summer… That [would be me performing with] a full band electric. That would be me doing… At this point, it would be all the songs from the record. I don't know if I can do… There's one song on the record that I don't know if I can do, but there's other stuff that we recorded that was never released. There's a song called 'Hypnotized', and '10,000 Miles', and 'Living In The Know', and 'Kiss The Sky', and 'Let Us Pray'… So there's a bunch of other songs that I can replace that one song with. But they're talking about me just going out with my full band, electrically, and doing a bunch of the material from the '94 record that I did with MÖTLEY."
Corabi also talked about the possibility of collaborating again with Mick Mars on the MÖTLEY CRÜE guitarist's forthcoming solo album. "I don't know what he wants to do musically, but at the end of the day, I love Mick Mars — he's one of the sweetest human beings you'll ever meet in your life — and anything I can do to help him with his solo record, I would be more than happy to do," Corabi said. "I appreciate the fact that Mick has been just stupidly supportive of what we did in the past, and I appreciate Mick's talent as a guitar player; I think he's totally underrated. And anything I can do to help him, he's more than willing to help me with what I wanna do. So we'll have to see where it goes from there."
In a 2012 interview, Mars stated about MÖTLEY CRÜE's 1994 self-titled album: "I thought that was probably… To me, and I can only speak for me, I think that was probably the best album we've done. Musical-wise, the songs, I felt, were strong. And just musically, to me, it was, I guess, my BEATLES 'White Album'; that's kind of how I feel about that one. I'm not saying that any of my other albums are crummy or anything like that — I love every album that we did — but that one just has a special thing for me."
Corabi's latest acoustic release, "Unplugged", saw him serving up a passionate, soulful dose of both new and classic songs. Available on Rat Pak Records, it offers five new original tracks, seven re-recorded classic songs and in addition, features an exclusive 2012 behind-the-scenes interview with John. The album features John Corabi on vocals/guitar, Cheney Brannon (formerly of COLLECTIVE SOUL) on percussion/vocals, Topher Nolen on bass/vocals, D.A. Karkos on guitar/vocals, Matt Farley on percussion/vocals and Bruce Kulick (KISS, GRAND FUNK RAILROAD) on guitar (on "Hoolgan's Holiday" and "Man In The Moon").
